Whilst the quickest way to get to Cesky Krumlov is via Linz, many visitors will arrive in the Czech Republic at Prague Airport. There are many airlines offering cheap flights into the Czech Republic's capital city coming from a wide range of cities in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe. We use Easyjet and BMI Baby , but there are others. In the summer of 2006 once taxes have been taken into consideration the cost was about £75 return.
Prague Airport is about 3 hours drive from Cesky Krumlov. There are lots of good car hire deals on the web, the best we found was with Argus Car Hire, with a small car for a week costing about £100. The car was supplied by Sixt, who also have a branch in Ceske Budejovice close to Cesky Krumlov. There are two routes down - one via Pisek and one via Tabor, both are on good roads, follow signs to Ceske Budejovice.
If you don't fancy driving then you can take a taxi - Athanor House will organise one for you if you are staying there, alternatively check out the Krumlov Taxi website . Or you can come down on public transport. There is a wonderful website which gives timetables and ticket prices for Czech trains and buses on http://jizdnirady.atlas.cz . We often use the train. Czech trains, while a bit basic at times, are cheap and efficient and the journey is beautiful. You have to change trains at Ceske Budejovice, where you board the little stopping train to Volary or Cerny Criz. This last part of the journey is particularly lovely as the train chugs around the base of the Blansky Les and the Klet mountain, but it is slow and if you want a quicker last stage there are taxis outside Budejovice station, 2006 price about £10. To get from Prague Airport to Prague railway station, catch a 119 bus from the bus station outside the terminal and get off at Devicka where the bus terminates. Go into the Devicka underground catch the tube train to Muzeum and change lines and travel one stop to the station. There are also coaches to Cesky Krumlov from Angel Coach Station.
The quickest and cheapest way to come by air from the UK is to fly to Linz Airport which is only 1 hr away from Cesky Krumlov. Ryanair flies from Stanstead (London) to Linz. Again you can get a taxi -check out Krumlov taxis website which gives up to date fares or take the shuttlebus.
Obviously the best way to see the various attractions and countryside we talk about on this site is by car. But the public transport system is good. The little train from Ceske Budejovice wends its way through the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the Blansky Les (Blansko Forest) before arriving at Cesky Krumlov. After Krumlov it goes on via stops along Lipno Lake through the Sumava National Park to Volary .

Of course there are also trains from Ceske Budejovice to major
towns and cities such as Tabor, Prague and Vienna.
For attractions that are not on the train routes there are taxis (see Krumlov Taxi above) and local buses.
One option is to hire bikes, which you can do easily in Cesky
Krumlov. The Czech Railways will transport the bikes on selected trains
for free. There is also Cyclotrans
which transports bikes by bus - two routes run out of Cesky Krumlov -
one goes in to the Sumava including stops at Borova Lada
and Kvilda and another goes via Rozmberk, Vyssi Brod, Lipno and
Frymberk.
