Traditional Czech Celebrations

6 Jan

The Czech Three King's Day is a day when Czech children dress up as the  three kings and go door to door collecting for charity and singing  carols.

18 - 21 Feb

The Masopust (Carnival) tradition probably goes back to prehistory. Masopusters dress up in traditional costumes and parade through  villages and towns - dancing  and playing music.

22- 25 April

Traditional painted easter eggs, flitches, and cakes, Czech Easter is perhaps the most important festival in the Czech year.

30 April - 1 May

The Czechs have kept their Mayday traditions - effigies of witches are burnt, decorated maypoles raised, folk music and dance, sausages and beer.

28 Sept

The day the Czechs celebrate their patron saint and nationhood Traditional music and dance, traditional food and drink. Wenceslas Fair in Krumlov Town Square

5 Dec

On St Nicolas’ Eve devils, angels and St Nicks throng the roads  asking  children whether they have been good (see photo above). Christmas season begins as do the  markets
