Whilst the quickest way to get to Cesky Krumlov is via Linz Airport, many visitors will arrive in the Czech Republic at Prague Airport. There are many airlines offering cheap flights into the Czech Republic's capital city coming from a wide range of cities in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe. We use Easyjet and BMI Baby, but there are others - Jet2, Czech Airlines and BA. Linz Airport is served by Ryanair flights from Stansted, London. See the Useful Links for airline websites. Prague to Cesky Krumlov takes about 2.5 hrs by road, Linz to Krumlov just 1.5 hr
The best way of hiring a car is to search for the best prices on one of the price comparison websites.
If you don't fancy driving, then you have the options of taking a taxi - check out the Krumlov Taxi web site, or a shuttle - such as Shuttlebus.cz or Sebastian There are other taxi firms and shuttles, but these are ones we have used and liked
Or you can come down on public transport:
FROM PRAGUE
Here you have two main options - the train or the coach. Of these we recommend the coach. The best coach service for Cesky Krumlov is the luxury Student Agency coach, which goes every two hours in high season. The journey is direct, stopping only at Pisek and Ceske Budejovice. It takes 3 hrs. Tickets and seats should be booked online at http://www.studentagency.eu Please note that there can be a lot of demand for seats on the coaches, so online booking is often essential. The price is about £6. Coaches go from the Na Knicezi coach station. To get to the coach station, buy a kc 26 ticket from the Public Transport booth in the Airport Booking Hall or one of the ticket machines in the bus station outside the Airport. Catch the No 100 bus, stamping your ticket in the machine on entering the bus, the bus terminates at Zlicin Underground station, from which you catch a line B train to Andel station (your ticket is valid for the train too). Walk up the steps and you will find yourself at the coach station. Allow about 50 minutes for the journey. The coach terminates at Cesky Krumlov Bus station, from which it is about 5 minutes walk to the old town.
Trains depart from the Hlavni Nadrazi station. There is a wonderful website which gives timetables and ticket prices for Czech trains and buses on http://www.idos.cz . Czech trains, while a bit basic at times, are cheap and efficient and the journey is beautiful. You have to change trains at Ceske Budejovice, where you board the little stopping train to Volary or Cerny Criz. This last part of the journey is particularly lovely as the train chugs through the Blanksy Les Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty hand the Klet mountain, but it is slow and if you want a quicker last stage there are taxis outside the station. The journey currently costs kc 260 (approx £8) and takes about 4 hrs depending on the connection The most direct public transport route from the Airport to the station is the Airport Express Bus (AE on the sign) which runs every half hour from the bus station outside the airport. It takes 50 minutes, without any changes, to deliver you to the station. Alternatively you could take the 119 bus and change on to the underground at Dejvicka, with a further change at Muzeum. The advantage of the 119 is that it is more frequent (roughly every 10 minutes) and cheaper. However both routes are cheap compared to a taxi. Cesky Krumlov Rail station is about 15 minutes down a steep hill to the old town. If you want to take a taxi into town consider preordering one from Krumlov taxis as the taxis waiting outside the station have been known to rip off arriving tourists.
FROM LINZ (AUSTRIA)
There are no easy public transport links from Linz. We therefore suggest you use one of the shuttles -such as Shuttlebus.cz or Sebastian. The journey takes 1.5 hrs, cost kc 400.
