Lake Lipno

Lake Lipno

Lake Lipno is 30 miles long and is very much a place of contrasts, combining  beautiful landscape and nature with water sports activities which makes it a perfect holiday destination.

It is easily accessible from Cesky Krumlov, as there are several train stations along its shore. At Cerna v Posumavi and Horni Plana the lake  is very much a holiday destination with all sorts of activities to  attract the visitor including swimming, sailing, fishing and  windsurfing. You can hire catamarans, yachts, sea kayaks, and  windsurfing equipment and get lessons if required. All at affordable  prices.

In Winter the area is a focus for visitors interested in winter sports, including ice skating, ice surfing and in the hills above Lipno downhill and cross country skiing and snowboarding.

In other places Lake Lipno offers quiet and seclusion and an opportunity  to enjoy nature and some stupendous views. As a general guide the east  and northern shorelines are the more touristy areas, while the southern  and western sides are quieter and have more dramatic scenery. You can  catch a ferry at Horni Plana to go over to the north bank and walk or  cycle in the Sumava National Park. Or you can go to Nova Pec for the  Sumava and the Schwarzenberg timber canal. Buy a map of the area and  follow the colour-coded paths and cycleways

Public transport access to Lake Lipno from Cesky Krumlov is by train (stations at Cerna v Posumavi, Horni Plana, and Nova Pec) or by bus (to Cerna v  Posumavi and Horni Plana).
