Top of our list is the small but fascinating Museum of Architecture and Craft in the basement of 92 Dlouha Street. This is possibly the best place to start a visit to Cesky Krumlov. The museum’s owner has been saving and restoring Cesky Krumlov’s architectural heritage for years and here you can gain a unique insight into how the town was built, with examples of doors, windows, ceilings etc. After a visit you will be able to look at the town’s buildings with informed eyes.
The Cesky Krumlov Regional Museum has just reopened after a major refurbishment. To our minds the wonderful, detailed model of old Krumlov, makes the museum worth a visit in itself, but you will also see new The Story of Cesky Krumlov exhibition, as well as other temporary exhibitions.
Children (and adults) will enjoy the two puppet museums - one in Dlouha Street and one in Latran. The latter is in the roofspace of St Jobst Church.
The latest addition to Cesky Krumlov’s museums is the Fotoatelier Seidel, in Linecka street. The Seidel family were photographers of Krumlov and the Sumava from the late 19th Century until 1949 and the exhibition includes not only a reconstruction of their studio but a fascinating collection of their photographs.
There are lots of galleries€¯ in Cesky Krumlov, but some of them are no more than shops. But by far the largest and most important is the Egon Schiele Centrum in Siroka Street.
Artist Egon Schiele was one of Cesky Krumlov's most famous inhabitants, and the Egon Schiele Art Gallery contains a small collection of his work. Egon Schiele produced a number of pieces of art inspired often by the roofs of Cesky Krumlov or its female inhabitants. The Art Gallery hosts a changing exhibition programme with exhibitions of other major artists' work from the Czech Republic and around the world. The bookshop and cafe are well worth a visit too.
